Yes, You Can Develop a Hair Dye Allergy Even If You Coloured Before
This catches people by surprise.
They will say, “But I have coloured my hair for years.”
That does not guarantee that a reaction can never develop.
Health Canada specifically notes that sensitivity to ingredients in permanent and semi permanent hair dye may not appear until after someone has used the products multiple times. Do not hide previous reactions.
If another salon colour caused your scalp to burn badly, tell us.

Here is another problem we see fairly often.
Someone colours their hair at home several times then decides they want balayage or a dramatically lighter shade.
From the outside the hair might simply look dark brown.
Inside those strands there can be layers of artificial pigment.

Trying to lift repeatedly coloured dark hair too quickly may create uneven warmth or put more stress on already processed lengths.
This is why we ask what has been used previously.
